What is Pre-Employment

Pre-Employment Services, which includes Pre-vocational and Group Supported Employment, provide customers the chance to gain personal skills and experiences in a non-competitive work environment. Working age youth and adults with disabilities who are in need of transitional employment and who have identified community based employment as a future goal can elect to utilize our Pre-Employment training programs as a means to prepare them for their future employer relationships. Participants are typically funded by a local or state agency such as Whitman County Developmental Services.

Our Pre-Employment program is most noted for its ongoing support by trained and compassionate supervisors during the program day. Customers in the Pre-Employment program work in both community and sheltered work-center environments. The combination of these work environments introduces participants to a progressively challenging and individualized work setting. Wages earned for work performed may be at or below state minimum wage depending on the participant’s personal productivity, quality, motivation, and time on task.

Pre- Employment can provide a transitional step to future individual supported employment. Participants may be referred to community based job opportunities according to their individualized employment plan and an accommodating employer.
